Empty Container Yard closed this weekend
New ring road from Monday
This is to advise that the Empty Container Yard (ECY) will be closed this weekend (March 11–12) while the ECY office and ring road are relocated east as part of a redevelopment to create a larger ECY and full container area. This weekend all trucks will need to go through the main terminal. From Monday, 13 March, the ECY perimeter road will be in a new location, to the east, as marked on the below diagram. The truck lane, office and truck exchange point will also be in new locations from Monday, as marked in the diagram. The redevelopment of the area will support the growth in container volume we are experiencing, provide more efficient operations and enhance customer service. It also includes the provision of additional car storage on the reclamation.
The project involves constructing 7,000 square metres of heavy duty pavements and asphalt surfacing to provide space for an extra 200 full containers slots. In addition, we are creating a new 1.3 hectare area for empty container storage and relocation of the perimeter road. As part of the project we will install a new substation which can handle future development of the Container Terminal and make our power supply more resilient. We appreciate your patience and co-operation during the development which will be completed in the second half of this year. It is part of our commitment to ensuring we have a thriving Port that meets customer needs and supports our region’s long term trade growth.
