  • Security

Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) must comply with the Maritime Security Act (2004) which requires that access to the Port is restricted to authorised people with approved port-related business.

LPC must also comply with the International Ship and Port Security Code (security number 0014) which requires a number of regulations to be in place for the secure and efficient operation of the port.

We therefore ask you to adhere to the following rules and procedures to ensure your visit to the Port is a secure and safe one:

  • All visitors to the Port must be pre-notified to the Security Control Centre (SCC) at the end of Gladstone Quay prior to arrival on site.
  • All visitors to the Port must report to the SCC and display photo ID (please note that photocopies are not accepted). If you do not have approved photo ID access into the Port will be denied.  Frequent users on Port-related business must apply to the Security Manager for an access card.
  • A shuttle bus is in operation 24 hours per day / 7 days per week to shuttle ship crew.
  • The Port is a licensed customs controlled area. All persons are bound by the Customs and Excise Act 2018.
  • The Port is a MPI approved transitional facility. All persons are bound by the conditions of the Biosecurity Act 1993.
  • All vehicles and baggage entering the facility will be subject to a random search.
  • Surveillance cameras are in operation to help Security staff monitor port operations.

PORT ACCESS CARDS

Regular visitors to the Port may apply for a Port Access Card (PAC) which provides swipe card entry. Regular visitors are those frequent port users who enter for Port-related business at least once per month (or at least 12 times per year).

All PAC’s will require a passport style photo to be printed on the card. The PAC is valid for up to 2 years after which time a new application will need to be completed and a new ID photo supplied.

For more information and application forms, head to our Port Access and Induction page here.
