Meet Glenn, LPC’s Coal Maintenance General Hand. Having been part of the LPC team for over 20 years, he now works in our Coal Yard, helping the team to keep operations running smoothly.

What does your job involve?
I work in the coal yard, operating mobile plant like dozers to build stockpiles for export. I also do the grading here and at the Empty Container Yard and CityDepot.

I pretty much do whatever needs to be done around the place to keep everything moving.

What and where was your first job?
I worked for the Mt Herbert County Council, looking after places around the harbour.

What is the most unique part of your role?
There is only one of me. There is no one else that does this role so I’m a bit of a one-man band.

What challenges do you enjoy in your role?
Sometimes the mine will throw a curveball and bring through more than they said so we have to work hard to make sure we have room for everything. It can definitely be a challenge. Each stockpile is about 40 – 64 megatonnes and it takes about 2 weeks to build one so it’s not easy to change quickly.

What is something you’re really proud of?
I’m really proud of my family and my family name. My family have been around the harbour a long time and have done a lot around here. My father started the Governors Bay Fire Brigade and I used to help out when I was younger.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I like to get out on my boat and fish, play golf, and go outside and do some landscaping. I also love to watch the grandkids play sports.

What is something that people may not know about you?
I have two daughters, two stepsons and 8 grandchildren.

What is something that is on your bucket list?
I want to go on a fishing trip in Fiordland – a 10-day charter would be cool.
