Community: Hundreds turn out for Lyttelton Rugby Club Day

Published: Monday, 1 June 2026

Nearly 100 Lyttelton juniors took to the field for Lyttelton Rugby Club Day in May at the Lyttelton Recreation Ground.

Club Day is an important fixture for the club, bringing players, families and supporters together and supporting the ongoing growth of junior rugby in Lyttelton.

A total of 97 junior players, from Year 1 through to Year 7, played in seven games against visiting teams from Belfast, Parklands and Christchurch rugby clubs.

On the sidelines under the new pavilion, Lyttelton Port Company staff ran a sausage sizzle non-stop for 5 hours. More than 300 sausages were handed out to all the teams, with the club collecting donations to support the junior programme.

A highlight for the children was the Super Rugby Trophy, currently held by the Crusaders, on display for photos all morning.

LPC proudly supports the club’s junior programme, sponsoring all their uniforms. LPC is also the front-of-jersey sponsor for the Premier Reserve side.

The fun family day is a reflection of LPC’s wider commitment to supporting local sport and community participation in Lyttelton.
