The inaugural Op Shop Ball, supported by LPC, raised almost $8000 for Lyttelton Primary School.

Held at the Lyttelton Arts Factory, the sold-out fundraiser was created by the volunteer team behind the Peninsula Art Auction as a new way to raise funds for the school.

Guests swapped traditional formalwear for op-shop finds and recycled fashion, embracing the fundraiser’s creative spirit. One of the highlights of the evening was the Reclaimed Runway, where more than 20 local people showcased outfits created from reclaimed, recycled and reinvented op-shop treasures.

Chief Bulk Cargo, Engagement and Sustainability Officer, Phil de Joux, says LPC was pleased to support an initiative that brought the community together while raising money for a local school.

“Lyttelton has a strong tradition of people coming together to support good causes, and the Op Shop Ball was a fantastic example of that. LPC backs initiatives that strengthen our community, and it’s great to see such a positive result for Lyttelton Primary School,” says Phil de Joux.

Organisers said the success of the fundraiser exceeded expectations and created a memorable night for the community.

“We knew Lyttelton would embrace a slightly crazy idea, but the creativity and enthusiasm people brought to the night was incredible.”

Organisers said the event was powered by volunteers and community goodwill.

“From the runway creators and DJs to the caterers, decorators, bar staff and behind-the-scenes helpers, so many people gave their time, skills and energy. It was a brilliant reminder of what this community can achieve when everyone gets behind an idea.”
