Environment: Ear tip recycling begins at LPC
More than 600 single-use ear tips per year will now be recycled.

Occupational Health Nurses Donna Thomson and Elisabeth Harre have launched a new recycling initiative at LPC.

The single-use ear tips used for hearing tests are now being collected for recycling instead of discarded as landfill waste.

This initiative took shape after Diatec, LPC’s audiometry equipment provider, contacted LPC with information about Terracycle, a company that finds recycling solutions.

Occupational Health Nurse Donna Thomson says LPC uses hundreds of ear tips annually, at least one per audiometry client, amounting to more than 600 per year that are sent to landfills.

Now, non-contaminated ear tips are collected in a designated box, and once full, the contents are recycled through Terracycle.

Although these ear tips are small, every bit of plastic diverted from landfills makes a difference. It’s rewarding to be part of something that contributes to a more sustainable future,” said Donna.

“It’s a fantastic initiative,” Donna added.
