Tony Simpson started at LPC as a PRP on 8 June 2015, previously working as a teacher and Principal at Phillipstown School. After the school closed, he switched careers and drove a Scania log truck from the log yard to ship here at the Port.

When Tony joined LPC, he learned about lashing on the ships and eventually went into straddle training, which was a ‘whole new world’.

“Our trainers, John Rush, Robbie Winder, Derek Mirk and Phil Jones, trained us very well,” said Tony.

“Driving a straddle was an amazing job. Being so high, being able to carry such heavy containers, and doing shift work was quite a challenge,” Tony added.

Tony’s leadership skills and passion for people led him to become the Port Services Manager, and he hasn’t looked back since.

As Head of Bulk Cargo, Tony oversees Bulk Cargo and the port’s biosecurity licensing, ensuring the facility maintains its status as a place of first arrival and international port.

“It’s all about keeping things running smoothly and safely while keeping customer satisfaction in mind,” said Tony.

Tony is also well known for the lively, educational port tours that are fun and informative.

“When I run a port tour, I want people to leave with a smile and having learned something new,” said Tony.
