Development: Jetty Piles Pulled: Splashes of Success

The last of the old wooden piles in the Inner Harbour have all but gone from the Lyttelton landscape.

Jetty 5 was demolished before Christmas, and Jetty 4 will be finished by the end of the week.

Senior Project Manager Razvan Secareanu says there are twenty-five piles left to go.

“It’s been a success, especially with removing all the Mediterranean fanworm from the Inner Harbour on Jetties 4, 5 and 6,” says Razvan.

A few piles along the southwest corner of Jetty 6 will also be removed.

Nine steel piles will be driven along the eastern side of Jetty 4 to create a physical separation and mark the previous location of the jetty.

“It will be a visual guidance for our Marine Team and the tug pilots. Each pile will be painted yellow and have a light on top, and it should be finished by the end of March.”
