Port News: LPC's new Board Chair and Directors

LPC’s three new Board members, Chair Barry Bragg, and Directors Nicki Crauford and Julian Hughes.

A new Chair and two new Directors have been appointed to our Board by Christchurch City Holdings Limited.

Christchurch City Council has approved Christchurch City Holdings Limited’s (CCHL) recommendation to appoint Barry Bragg as Chair of Lyttelton Port Company, as well as Dr. Nicki Crauford and Julian Hughes as independent directors on the LPC Board.

Christchurch-based Barry Bragg is a chartered accountant with strong governance and commercial experience, particularly in the infrastructure sector, and has been acting as an interim director for LPC since the end of April.

CCHL Chair Abby Foote says Barry has impressed with his high level of engagement in the interim role, as well as his depth of experience and understanding of the broader opportunities for the Port as a high-performing organisation with a strong focus on the safety, development, and support of its people.

Abby Foote says the two independent directors also demonstrate strong, complementary experience in both the infrastructure sector and health and safety.

Dr. Nicki Crauford is an engineer with extensive governance and senior management experience in infrastructure, including ports, energy, water, and telecommunications utilities. Nicki has previously been a director of CentrePort Limited and is chair of StraitNZ, which operates freight and passenger shipping across the Cook Strait in addition to trucking and logistics services. In addition to StraitNZ, Nicki is currently the Chair of the Electricity Authority, a director of Watercare, and a trustee of the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust. She has previously served as a director of Orion, the Environmental Protection Authority, and Kainga Ora. Nicki is a Distinguished Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Directors of NZ, where she has also served as CEO.

Julian Hughes has over 20 years’ experience in the health and safety sector, working in senior public and private sector roles including Executive Director at the New Zealand Business Leaders Health and Safety Leaders Forum and National Manager, Safety and Wellbeing at the New Zealand Fire Service. Julian is currently GM Supply at Z Energy, managing the end-to-end supply chain for liquid fuels in New Zealand including procurement, shipping, storage, and distribution. His previous executive roles at Z Energy have included responsibility for strategy, risk, and leadership of a transformational programme to deliver improved operational risk management at Z Energy.

The LPC Chair appointment is effective immediately, the new director appointments are effective 19 June 2023.  A third independent director will be appointed in the coming months.
