The entrance to the tunnel beneath Sumner Road has been blocked off by LPC. It comes after increased trespass attempts posed significant risk to individuals attempting to reach the tunnel and go inside.

Recent posts on social media about the abandoned tunnel sparked an upsurge in attempts to access the site. Individuals had scaled down the cliffs, disregarding the conditions and clear boundaries of LPC’s high-risk operational area.

One person suffered serious injuries following a fall from the tunnel entrance last year and was admitted to hospital.

The blocked entrance is necessary to prevent further attempts at accessing the tunnel.
