The 2025–26 cruise season at Lyttelton has concluded, marking the end of a shorter, more condensed period of cruise activity.
Head of Customer Relations, Andrew Todd, said the season delivered strong results overall, despite some disruption.
“It’s been a successful season, and overall we can be very proud of what we’ve achieved and the way the season has gone,” Andrew said.
Sixty-five cruise ship visits were scheduled, with 60 vessels ultimately calling at the port. One voyage was cancelled due to engine failure, and the remaining missed calls were caused by weather conditions.
Andrew acknowledged the range of teams involved in delivering cruise operations at Lyttelton.
“They all play a part in making sure that the ship is well received and looked after through the course of the day and then sails on at the end of it,” he said.
New Zealand Cruise Association CEO, Jacqui Lloyd, said the season performed well despite being a shorter timeframe.
“Though it was shorter and more condensed, it was an incredible season. Every port was welcoming, and the experience was positive for both passengers and ports,” Jacqui said.
“Lyttelton is a beautiful harbour to arrive in and operates with strong services, and the region offers passengers a wide range of experiences and attractions,” she added.
Jacqui said weather‑related disruptions were within expectations for New Zealand.
“We experienced typical weather events for an island nation, with a few cancellations that were manageable, with ports stepping up at short notice and responding positively when needed,” she said.
