Lyttelton Port Company’s land next to Fisherman’s Wharf has a fresh burst of greenery, thanks to a community-driven planting initiative.

Lyttelton local Omar Seychell, a member of LPC’s Port Liaison Committee and Project Lyttelton, suggested revitalising the area for locals and visitors  near the Norwich Quay bus stop.

“This site has been neglected for so long and I am so happy that we got the approval from LPC to plant out the area with native shrubs and grasses which will help improve the local amenity and also provide a little bit of habitat for some of our native bird species”.

LPC donated 150 native plants for the planting, including a variety of grasses, hebes, and flax, which cover the slope.

Head of Environment and Sustainability, Crystal Lenky, says “It was nice to be able to support  the local community with this initiative. The area has been a bit of an eyesore for a while and hopefully now it is a more visually appealing space for the community.”
