Community: Visitors Tour of Laura Bassi
The delegation on the Laura Bassi.

A small delegation from Ngāti Wheke, Antarctica NZ, COMNAP, the Italian Consulate, UC—Gateway Antarctica, and ChristchurchNZ came to Lyttelton Port to visit the Italian Antarctic icebreaker.

Laura Bassi returned to Christchurch after embarking on a promising journey to uncover new scientific discoveries.

The ships crew told the group about their recent travels and showed the storage required for the scientific research on the long journey.

Laura Bassi’s latest expedition focused on ice cores. The cylindrical samples provide invaluable data and insights into climate conditions on the ice.

International collaboration allows scientists from various countries to share the data collected, united by the common goal of advancing our understanding of the Antarctic.

As the Laura Bassi continues its journey back to Italy, the scientific community eagerly awaits the findings of its latest expedition.
