SailGP a winner for Lyttelton

Over 22,000 sports fans rolled into Lyttelton and down to Naval Point for SailGP.

250 LPC staff, family, and friends turned up for Saturday’s racing, downing 600 sausages on the Cruise Berth while waiting for racing to start.

“A big thanks to everyone here at the port who helped with the sailing event, especially those behind the scenes, including Hannah Fyffe, who led LPC’s team effort in the lead-up to and including the event on the weekend,” said CEO Graeme Sumner.

Sunday’s racing made up for the lost day with four races, and the event was won by New Zealand’s Black Foils.

Lyttelton hospitality outlets were busy on Sunday, with packed streets and queues out the door.

Locals and visitors packed into Albion Square to watch the racing on a free big screen by the Lyttelton Harbour Business Association with the support of local businesses, including LPC.
